What a pleasant surprise I got last week when I was spontaneous and accepted a invitation from a friend to go to a viewing of “The Economic of Happiness”. It was part of the Building Sustainable Communities Conference in Kelowna, B.C. I had no idea what I was in for, other than I liked the title and was curious as to what was to be shared. The movie was so validating in so many ways. Here are key reminders that I picked up from seeing this powerful movie and listening to the panel of experts after the movie:
1. We need deeper connections with the earth. Get out in nature daily, even if for 5 minutes. Take care of yourself first.
2. Connection is a fundamental human need. Find ways to connect with people in person ,daily, even if is as simple as a smile or telling someone you love them.
3. Do what you can to support the local economy, support small business, re- invest in our economy, purchase locally and support small business.
4. Seek happiness within. Avoid buying and purchasing more stuff to fill yourself up.
5. Find ways to build community. Host an event, volunteer, try something new, give back to someone in more need than you, recycle.
6. Take responsibility for your life in all ways. One person can make change . Find a cause your passionate about and get going.
Start right here. Take 4 minutes to watch the trailer for the movie, get inspired and start taking action.
