I recently had the wonderful opportunity to be the opening keynote speaker at a Pure Power Event held at the beautiful Bottega Farm Inn and Studio in East Kelowna. It was an amazing day in all ways. I was reminded of how passionate I am of what I teach and how much I enjoy speaking. It was extra enjoyable as the audience was receptive and open hearted. I have spoken a lot in the past yet I knew in my heart this talk would be different as I have been getting a inner calling to speak from my heart vs using power point and having a prepared talk. Don’t get me wrong, I put a lot of energy into preparing for this talk because it was completely different in how I usually present. I chose to use props, vs power point so that I would trust my own inner wisdom. I felt so connected to the audience and although I know I cannot connect to everyone I was happy to feel the way I did and have several people come up to me and have them share the connections they made for themselves. It has inspired me to live bigger and step into more of my dreams and visions.
My husband joined me for the day and after I spoke we attended the workshops. I met some wonderful people and connected with some colleagues, it was truly a blissful day being nurtured, immersed in nature and surrounded by like hearted people. Tomi Hanley, Kathy Reid and their Pure Power Events’ Team made it a magical day in all ways! It truly was a day to fill up with self love.
I speak and teach a lot about self love. One of my favourite quotes is ” we can’t give what we don’t have”. We want fulfilling loving relationships, yet how many of us truly make time to nurture our selves?
One of the ways I support people in connecting with themselves is being connected to our feelings. Our feelings are an incredible inner compass and tell us what is going on and help us connect to ourselves, if we listen and feel them. As adults we get so caught up in the responsibilities of being an adult that we lose touch with our feelings and childlike self. There is a big difference between childlike and childish. We just have to think of some of our politicians or entertainers in the lime light to be reminded of childish. Childlike is the innocence that we had as children that desperately needs to come out and play.
Sometimes we think begin strong means not giving in to our feelings. That is not strength; that is denial and resistance. Real power comes from being vulnerable enough to feel whatever we feel. Keep going, we tell ourselves, don’t give in, push on ….. but the only way to pass through these times is by feeling what we feel. The crazy thing is, the longer we resist our feelings, the longer the situation will continue that is triggering them.
We may not see the lesson until we feel the feelings. Feeling our emotions and releasing them is when the miracles happen. Talking about our feelings can help us bring them into consciousness, into the light of day. Feel the feeling then allow it to release. This is when your heart and soul can move forward into new circumstances, into growth. This can be a uncomfortable, sometimes a messy process. This is why we sometimes need other professionals to facilitate and to hold space for us to just be, as we learn to honour all parts of ourselves.
Learning to be gentle with yourself is one of the most important learnings in living a heart centred life. Remember you are not alone in your problem, your feelings of powerlessness or your search for a solution. Let your heart lead the way to the answers you seek.
