What is going on in your life that is not so fun right now?
Is it a frustrating computer glitch, maybe your washing machine has stopped working mid cycle, has your car got a worrisome noise that won’t go away, does your mother need help with getting through today? Maybe your child needs help with his/her homework, your partner wants something you can’t give him/her right now because you need it too? The list can go on and on …. Oh, and did I mention your to do list has not only overwhelmed you, but you’re now immobilized with that “deer in the headlights” glazed over look, staring into space, until the next item smacks you! If you can relate to any of these, then read on ………..
I say STOP !! ……. Just for a few precious minutes and do something radically different. Start dancing, make sticky notes and put them all over the house to remind you how you desire to feel like: Breathe, Harmony, Peace, Joy. STOP! Step outside of this scene and see the humour in what you’ve created. I mean really, why are we taking this thing called life so seriously?
Yes, I know there are serious things going on in some peoples lives. Perhaps as you’re reading this you’re feeling like your heart has just been ripped out, you’re feeling all alone or maybe you have recently lost someone dear to you. I’m not talking about this level of emotional stress. (If this is going on for you then feel free to email or blog me for a different level of support and guidance).
So what are the feelings that go along with this not-so-fun experience? Do you feel agitated, frustrated, angry, anxious, and/or STRESSED? Is your body tight, or responding in some yucky way to these unpleasant emotions? Are these feelings being vented on some innocent bystander like your partner, child, pet? Yes, it’s usually a loved one who hears about it, so let’s turn that around and look at having FUN with the Not So Fun part of your life.
First of all, what do you think would happen if you didn’t make any of this wrong? Simply notice what is happening and ask yourself what you could do to shift the energy or the not so fun feeling inside. What if you went for a little walk outside, read something light or funny, read a quote you love that warms your heart, tell your favourite joke, read a joke, write down your feelings? Can you feel the shift starting to happen even thinking about it or just reading this?
It can be anything that shifts you from taking yourself and your life so seriously. Get creative! Try phoning a dear friend or email and share your situation with someone close.(hint: your coach )It’s amazing how sharing with another human being can shift our perspective and lighten our load. Here are some other great funk busters: Get up and do a lil dance, go pull some weeds, pet your dog or cat, listen to uplifting music you love. You’ll be surprised at how this simple exercise can shift your state of being from stress to joy! And it doesn’t have to take very long either.
So go try a few on, get on with your day/ night and have some fun with it……and hey share the fun! You just may be doing someone else a big favour too! Let me know what worked for you!
